A brass lamp made from brass already used
Most of the brass in our lamps comes from scrapped taps, other plumbing fittings and old candlesticks. It is melted down, polished by hand and becomes a base, two bookends and a height adjustable arm that can in turn be recycled again the day the lamp is finished with you. Brass tarnishes over the years into a patina you can keep or polish away. That is the whole idea behind a cyclical material.

This alloy of copper and zinc has been used by people since before 1500 AD. It is sometimes called poor man’s gold, but unlike most of what we build things from today, it is profitable to recycle.
Why we choose brass for lighting
A brass lamp does not get worse from being used. It becomes a different one. In contact with air, brass tarnishes and takes on a deeper tone and a patina that cannot be manufactured in advance. Coated sheet metal does the opposite: it looks its best on day one and worse every day after.
How to care for the brass
Always wear soft cotton gloves, or keep a soft cloth between your hand and the lamp. That keeps fingerprints and marks away. If you prefer a bright high gloss finish, use a mild polish that leaves a water repellent film, such as Glanol. Apply a small amount evenly and polish with a soft, dry cloth, always in the same direction. Avoid water on the brass.
Or simply leave it alone
You do not have to polish at all. Many prefer the warm, matte patina that arrives on its own over the years. The good thing about brass is that the decision is never final: a tarnished surface can be polished back up whenever you change your mind.
Small variations in the finish are proof of the craftsmanship and of the nature of brass itself.
Where the brass sits
Base, two bookends and the height adjustable arm are all in recycled, polished brass. The base plate measures 32 x 20 cm and rests on four round brass feet with roots in classical design history. The lamp holder is brass with an E27 socket and two shade rings included.
The whole lamp weighs 2.5 kg without shade and books. The weight is not an accident. It is what solid metal weighs.
The practical part, without surprises
Max 60W E27, bulb not included. Textile cable covered in tweed cotton and natural linen with a glitter finish, around three metres. Single pole switch in white and bronze on the cord, 0.8 m from the lamp. Euro plug. Marked CE, protection class 2, IP20.
Shades with a lower fitting mount straight onto the rings. Smaller shades with metal clips can sit directly on the bulb, and shades with an upper fitting work with a harp.

We work with selected Swedish craftspeople and skilled makers who share our values, and production happens in small scale close to us. That keeps transport, emissions and waste down, and it keeps an endangered craft alive.
